Words, words, mere words, no matter from the heart. (Troilus and Cressida)
Sometimes words can feel difficult to say, or sometimes, particularly in times of trauma, the words cannot be found. Drama and movement therapy can help you to discover a new vocabulary, new ways to verbalise what feels difficult to say; expression of oneself in a transformative and non-threatening way through creative mediums.
The ethos at the heart of my practice is a holistic one, working with the whole body. I practice in a client-led way and will collaborate with you to find the safest and most comfortable way of working for you.
There is also space for talking; sessions will start with a verbal ‘check-in’ before the focus of that session is established depending on your need at that time.
Examples of creative work include drama, story work, movement, use of voice, therapeutic cards and art. Dramatherapists work with symbolism and metaphor using the creative medium as a ‘bridge’ between the real world and the imaginary world. This is very effective in ensuring clients feel safe and that difficult thoughts and feelings are explored and managed while being kept at a ‘distance.’
I have always been passionate about drama as a means of communication, self-expression and healing both in my work as an actress and subsequently as a dramatherapist.
In nearly 10 years of practice I have worked in private healthcare, community settings and education, in both the UK and overseas. These experiences mean I am adaptable in my approach and able to work with a diverse range of people from all backgrounds dealing with issues including anxiety and depression, PTSD, bereavement, emotional and behavioural difficulties, resettlement and eating disorders.
I also offer perinatal support pertaining to anxiety and depression before or during pregnancy, post-natal depression, birth trauma or identity / reconnection with oneself after birth.
No prior experience of drama or movement is necessary.
I am registered with the HCPC (Health Care and Professions Council) and BADth (British Association of Dramatherapists), and fully insured with Holistic (including Public Liability). I also have full DBS Clearance and have a current Safeguarding and Child Protection Level 3 certificate.
Fee: £60 per 50-minute session
