Shiatsu Massage Therapy
Shiatsu is a traditional bodywork therapy from Japan. It is a gentle and supportive physical therapy that helps to balance the body's vital energy flow and stimulate the body's natural healing ability. Shiatsu has a systematic re-balancing effect on the whole body. A variety of techniques are used - Acupressure, holding, gentle pressure with thumbs, palms, elbows and knees along meridians, muscle energy techniques, fascia release, joint rotations and breathing awareness.
It works on the principal that vital energy (Ki in Japanese) runs through our bodies in meridians. If this energy becomes blocked or weak then various symptoms and illnesses can occur (on a physical, mental and emotional level). Shiatsu re-balances the flow of Ki through the whole body, re-balancing physically, mentally and emotionally. I see shiatsu as psychotherapy for the body. Supporting to release blocked emotions and stress stored in the body.
A life style consultation is taken on the first treatment to build up a picture of your health according to the principals of oriental medicine and a specific treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs.
It can help with a specific symptom or condition, or used as a regular treatment to help maintain well-being and preventative care.
